The postgraduate Master Study Program “Health and Society: International Gender Studies Berlin” begins in October each year and lasts 12 months. The course comprises five on-site study modules, an internship, and three months for the completion of the Master’s thesis. The language of instruction is English. Public health scientists and leading experts from Germany and all over the world will teach in the program. The Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin will award the university degree "Masters of Science in Public Health". Modules can be studied individually for the receipt of a module certificate.
The postgraduate Master Study Program "Health and Society: International Gender Studies Berlin" concentrates on the following: gender perspective, promotion of women, internationalization, interdisciplinary education and research and a dialogue between applied science and health. The aim is to impart knowledge, skills and experience that will qualify students for an application-oriented activity or leading position in the field of health and society in their country of origin, abroad and/or in international organizations. Taking into consideration gender aspects, consulting and management tasks in healthcare will focus on improving the health of individuals and the general population as well as on the prevention and treatment of diseases and rehabilitation.
By participating in teaching events, practical work and research activities, students gain the knowledge and ability to recognize program-relevant problems on a regional and global level and to formulate scientifically well-founded approaches for solving them.
The Master Program "Health and Society: International Gender Studies Berlin" is open for students of all ages coming from public health relevant disciplines (medicine, biology, sociology, public health or related disciplines). The studies offered are intended to enable them to acquire a comprehensive and critical perspective on the interaction between health/disease and society/individual, with a gender-specific focus and to use this perspective for the benefit of society. In their native countries the students should be able to develop and to realise needs-orientated health care concepts and innovative research approaches. The work and the international exchange in the course of study is intended to support the students after the conclusion of their studies in careers in health politics and health care in their native countries, or to realise projects in the context of employment with international organisations, or through consultation with political decision makers, etc.

The study program is multidisciplinary. Modules include: international health, epidemiology, social sciences, health promotion and prevention, women’s health research and feminist theories, reproductive health, health services management, and health systems research. The program includes the study of theoretical concepts as well as research methods.

Admission requirements are a college degree (Bachelor’s level or above) and the evidence of sufficient mastery of the English language.
The written application and all required documents for admission must be submitted in English. The Admissions and Examinations Board makes the decision as to qualification and admission and establishes selection criteria.
